Section of the history of architecture and architectural heritage protection
Compulsory courses include: History of Architecture I – IV, Protection of Architectural Heritage, Croatian Space and Architecture – Zagreb and Croatian Space and Architecture – Istria in the undergraduate programme, Architectural Heritage Workshop and the elective course Architectural Heritage I -III in the graduate programme.
The courses History of Architecture I – IV equips students with knowledge on architecture of particular historical periods, including Croatian examples which was the result of different technical, functional and artistic elements used at the time. In teaching, special attention was given to the comprehension of architectural theory and practice, functional typology of architecture as the basis for creative interpretation, historical environmental limitations and various adaptations (climate, building materials) and impacts of social development on architecture, interrelationship of material, structure, technology and architectural design, and finally, understanding of architectural drawings as two-dimensional representations of three-dimensional reality
