The city core of Dubrovnik, a significant historical and cultural monument of the Dalmatian coast, repeatedly initiates dialogues of heritage preservation and implementation of contemporary architecture. In its second year, the School of the City workshop delved into these topics with great enthusiasm, eventually producing intriguing architectural solutions for the Ruđer Bošković Square. The results were eight student projects mentored by renowned experts, in which subtle contemporary interventions offered new expedient functions while simultaneously evaluating and emphasizing the historical context of the city core. These projects are included in the first part of publication, while the second part consists of mentors' lectures analysing a number of historical and theoretical topics regarding the location and methods of interventions. Publications that result from student workshops and summer schools are undoubtedly becoming a tradition of the Faculty of Architecture in Zagreb.
