Biography
Marija Barović is a teaching and research assistant at the Department of History and Theory of Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Zagreb (since 2019). She received her diploma in architecture from the Zagreb Faculty of Architecture in 2015. In the second year of her master's degree program (fall 2013), she studied at the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Paris La Villette, as part of a student exchange program. In 2022, she earned a post-professional degree Master in Design Studies in History and Philosophy of Design and Media from Harvard Graduate School of Design.
In 2014, while still a student, she participated in the 14th Venice Architecture Biennale “Fundamentals: Absorbing Modernity 1914-2014,” as a member of the research and content production team for the Croatian exhibition “Fitting Abstraction” (selector Karin Šerman). Later on, her master's thesis “Mediterranean Plants Research Institute in the Abandoned Factory in Doli,” was nominated for an award at “Consistency,” the 50th Zagreb Salon of Architecture Exhibition in 2015, in the category of Student Projects (selector Hrvoje Njirić).
She is a licensed architect with work experience in the architectural studios OFIS Arhitekti in Ljubljana (2012) and Mikelić Vreš Arhitekti in Zagreb (2015-2018). Her work has been recognized with several awards at architectural and urban competitions in which she participated as a co-author or collaborator. Recently, she earned a nomination for the Drago Galić Award for the best work in the field of residential architecture in Croatia in 2020, as part of the Mikelić Vreš Arhitekti design team (with Marin Mikelić and Tomislav Vreš), for a single-family house on Pantovčak Street in Zagreb.
