Sports Architecture by academician Boris Magaš, architect and architectural theorist (Karlovac, August 22, 1930 - Rijeka, October 24, 2013) - alongside hotels, kindergartens, and religious buildings - is a prominent thematic segment of his architectural work. He is the author of the paradigmatic Poljud Stadium in Split, undoubtedly one of the highest-quality buildings in Croatia. Magaš adapted his original theme of a self-supporting structure shaped by stands with tension along the upper edge and steel lattice canopies with transparent roofing in his subsequent projects for stadiums at Kantrida and Rujevica in Rijeka, and Jarun and Kajzerica in Zagreb.
